Police investigating motorcycle accident in Schenectady

UPDATE: Police now confirm that both motorcycle riders have died.

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (WTEN) – Police are investigating a motorcycle accident that happened Saturday just after 6 p.m. on Erie Boulevard.

According to Schenectady Police Sgt. Matt Dearing, several calls came in for the crash at the intersection of State Street and Erie.

Two passengers were on the motorcycle, a male and a female. One was transported to Albany Medical Center and the other was transported to Ellis Hospital in the city. Both are listed in serious condition.

The Schenectady Police Traffic Division and the State Police were called to the scene to reconstruct the accident, and Erie Boulevard, southbound from State Street, is closed.

Many patrons at Wolff’s Biergarten saw the accident.

“I saw the motorcycle flying across the road, airborne with nobody on it,” said Anthony Martin. “It was loud, it was smoke everywhere, then people screaming.

“I never seen anything like that in my life before . . . .  don’t want to again, either.”
