Its been one week since Avera McKennan announced a purchase of nearly 70 properties just south of the main campus in Sioux Falls.
On Thursday night, Avera McKennan representatives met with homeowners and tenants about what the hospital’s plans are moving forward.
“I realize my house is probably going to go to the hospital,” said Diane Thompson, who has lived in her home on 8th Street for eight years.
When she heard Avera McKennan purchased the neighborhood she lives in, she was relieved.
“Its been a relief to have Avera take over again, they’re good neighbors.”
While Avera officials say they have no immediate plans to develop the area, they do say it is in their 20 to 25 year plan to eventually expand.
“I was told when I bought the house it would be 10 to 15 years and it would be a parking lot,” said Thompson. “And I was fine with that.”
She says it was encouraging to hear Avera say they are going to take care of their new tenants.
“We want to be open,” said Avera McKennan Vice President of Hospitality Tom Bosch. “We want to collaborate with our new tenants, just an open dialogue that we have back and forth to make sure all of their needs are being met.”
While Thompson says she knows her house may eventually be turned into a parking lot, she says she is confident Avera McKennan will spruce up the neighborhood in the meantime.
“I’m hoping Avera is going to bring things up to standard again and we’re going to get gutters off the ground. You like to have your neighborhood look a little nicer. You take pride in your home and the property you have,” she said.
