UNIVERSITY CITY, MO (KTVI) – The recent spate was the focus of prayer vigils Friday night, stretching from downtown to Chesterfield.
Local clergy prayed outside the University City Police Department for an end to injustice, for the safety of young people and for improved relations between police departments and communities.
The religious leaders held their vigil on Delmar Boulevard as hundreds of commuters headed home.
The message: even a diverse police department like University City can update its officer training in community policing and the treatment of minorities.
The clergy here said they plan to ask the city council to provide funding so the police department can complete the staff training needed to acquire accreditation.
