Red Cross Assists Residents After Evening Apartment Fire

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to an apartment fire at 701 North Elmwood Ave shortly before 5:00 Wednesday night.

First arriving crews found smoke and flames coming from the first floor of a three story structure. Crews evacuated the building and had the fire under control in approximately 10 minutes.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The apartment building did not have a sprinkler system.

The building has been vacated for the night and the Red Cross has opened a shelter.

Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with two support vehicles, five fire trucks, and twenty five firefighters.

Sioux Falls Fire would like to remind residents to leave the building when they hear the fire alarms.
